Hey tried to workout a alternative (cheaper) route to P2NP with the help of AI. But bc you can't trust it, even if you ask several different ones, I would like to ask the real chemists to find the mistakes or difficulties in the following synth
  • Acetophenon: 1 eq
  • Nitromethan: 4 eq
  • KOH: 1 eq
  • Isopropanol (IPA): 150 mL

1. Base preparation: Dissolve KOH in IPA (solvent).
2. Activation: Add nitromethane to the KOH solution under strong cooling.
3. Ketone addition: Slowly add acetophenone while keeping temperature low
4. Reaction progression:
After exotherm slows, warm to room temperature (~1 h).
Maintain ~50 °C for 2 h to complete reaction.
5. Isolation: Slowly acidify with dilute acid (10 % HCl) to pH ~7 to precipitate the product.
6. Filter and Clean

Theoretical Yield should be 1eq P2NP

Good theory

I don't know if it will work

Try in smaller ratios if you got success, then upscale for the nugget of gold :)

But an alternative way around the use of highly regulated nitroethane IS GRAND

Nitromethane is easier to get, just don't order big 5liter every week with your real name and real address and real email and real main payment especially if you don't got a "business creditentials"

* this is a theory

Convert allylbenzene (3-phenylpropene) with absolute alcoholic KOH vacuum reflux overnight to isomerization to propenylbenzene

From propenylbenzene, react with tetranitromethane and a few other reactants

To give you the phenylnitropropene

*Tetranitromethane IS A VERY DANGEROUS CHEMICAL COMPOUND! READ SAFTEY WARNINGS BEFORE UTILIZING THAT ! *
