I have a question about the Nagai-method,which uses hydroiodic-acid (HI) and red Phosphorus (P) to reduce (Pseudo)ephedrine (C10H15NO) to Methamphetamine (C10H15N) .How I understand it:
You first let the (Pseudo)ephedrine react with the hydroiodic-acid to get Iodoephedrine (C10H15NI) and then add red Phosphorus to regenerate the hydroiodic-acid from the phosphorous-acid (H3PO3) which is created from the Phosphorus triiodide (PI3) when it reacts with water. After this step the Iodoephedrine should be reduced to methamphetamine . My questions are:
-Do you use (Pseudo)ephedrine HCl or the free base?
-How much red Phosphorus and hydroiodic-acid is used on how much (Pseudo)ephedrine?
-At what temperature should the reaction take place?
-How much time does the reaction with the hydroiodic-acid take and how long should you wait after adding the red Phosphorus?
-The Methamphetamine in the end is in its free base, which means that it's in its liquid form, so what's the best way to extract it from the mixture?
-And once you get the liquid Methamphetamine extracted, you solve it in Hydrochloric acid to get it crystallized, right?
-And then how do you extract the crystals from the hyrochloric acid?

I look forward to an answer. :)

Watch these. Read all the comments. Watch them again. Then go check the forum for meth posts that are relevant to you in the phenethylamine section.
